Possibly the most important fashion purchase you’ll make this winter is that of your winter jacket. The right jacket can set you back financially but with the right choice can become an investment that will see you through many a tough winter to come. The beauty of mens jackets is that although trends come and go many styles can be seen year after so choosing a jacket that has ‘style staying power’ is key to a successful purchase.
The key looks for mens jackets for winter 2011 are broken down below and all can be found on every level of the price scale from High street’s own brand offerings, through branded options right up to the high end designer jackets.
Pea Coats and Reefer jackets – Based on the heavy wool jackets worn by the US navy Pea Coats and Reefers are classic winter jackets that fit perfectly with this season’s military trend. With their double breasted fastening, large lapels, military styling and heavy wool construction, they are not only super stylish but super warm and versatile too. All the high street stores offer great budget versions while brands like Firetrap and Superdry offer great designs at mid range prices.
Three Quarter Length Jackets – The three quarter is big this season and comes in a multitude of styles and fabrics. Look for wool duffles with oversized button fastenings and lined hoods, tailored belted trenches made from wool or heavy cotton and country inspired wax hunter jackets. French Connection, Hilfiger Denim and Robbie Williams’ new Farrell range all invest heavily in these three quarter styles.
Parkas – Parka style jackets make an appearance again this season and the key addition is the fur trim hood. The mod inspired classic is given an update by some of the biggest high street brands with Ted Baker and G-Star offering some fine examples and more street level edgy brands like Criminal Damage and Rocawear getting also in on the act.
Quilted Jackets – Inspired by the English heritage country trend this season, the quilted jacket is another of the must have styles that will stand the test of time. This classic of the country has been re-worked by brands like Voi and Gio Goi to bring a distinctly urban feel to the jacket. And if that’s too contemporary for you then keep it traditional with the original Barbour jacket.
